Wicked chalet: studio stashed!

Well, that's the first day, and we had a blast over the back of solaise, burning down madeleine and glacier all morning, we popped over the mountain (love it) to le fornet and enjoyed their odd vista before digging in to blue runs, pyramid, gondolas which felt like microwaves and attempted ski-ins!!

It's hot here. Really hot. Sun tan lotion is critical! The vin chaud and lemonades give you back your inner peace at the end of the day though. That, and a spot of champagne in a hot tub with your legs tingling from the exertion!

The board and nic's skis got serviced in town and Morgan (the fixer, as he is now known!) brought it back. Both are now running ULTRA slick, plus the pistes are perfect condition with just the right kind of coverage. If the heat continues all week it might get annoying, but right now it's gorgeous out there.

I actually carved a new track in virgin snow today, the float on the off piste you can find at the moment is niiice. There's a load of fresh stuff nobody's found yet, in fact we've got places closed off for avalanche risk!

I have a little bet with myself about getting some more offpiste in. Maybe I'll consider a lesson or two?

So far, it's good. I'd recommend Val D'isere (and Tignes) to anyone as so far it's the only place in the alps I've been to where the snow has never failed. Verbier got too hot: courcheval got too hot: it seems the sheer altitude here is the big clincher.
